Elwy Clarke - President
Hi everyone, welcome to the PPE Society my name is Elwy and I am this year’s President.
I’m going into my 3rd year at Manchester, and over the past two years have loved being part of the PPE Society as a Peer Mentor, Peer Mentor Coordinator and part of the Netball team so am very excited and proud to President this year. As president my role involves chairing all committee meetings and helping all other members of the committee. I will act as point of contact between staff, such as our course director, and all students. I also have many admin jobs such as registering our society with the SU and more excitingly booking our annual PPE Holiday!
Our aim for the society this year is to make it, and the events we hold, as inclusive diverse and fun as possible. We encourage all your suggestions for socials and events, as ultimately the society is run for you! In this way please feel free to add me on Facebook if you have any questions or suggestions relating to PPE or Manchester. I look forward to meeting you all in Freshers Week, where I will introduce you to the rest of our amazing committee members and show you all what the PPE Society has to offer!
Leah Millward - Vice President
Welcome to the Manchester PPE society! I’m Leah, I’m in my final year and I’m the Vice President of Manchester’s PPE Society. I’m really looking forward to the role in the society, where I have gained so much from being involved over the last two years. As VP I will be concentrating on alumni networking, careers advice, and sponsorship. At the same time I’ll be assisting Elwy and the rest of the committee with their roles; namely helping with the organisation of meetings, events and socials. My main aims are to keep our current students connected with our past graduates and to create a space where all the different career paths available to our PPE students are showcased and facilitated. I specifically aim to organise alumni and careers events including those to help students apply for summer internships and graduate jobs. Feel free to message me with any questions or suggestions. I look forward to meeting the new cohort of PPE students in Freshers’ Week and I encourage everyone to get involved!
Ben Reed- Secretary
Hello, My name is Ben and I am a second year PPE student. Welcome to the website and our society. I am secretary of the PPE society and this means I organise meetings, keep minutes and help the other committee members in any way I can. Beyond the organisational role, I also play a role in the social aspects of the society. The socials are a great way to get involved in the course and you’ll find me at most. The society is a great way to meet your course mates and its definitely a good laugh. I’ll be here if anyone wants to talk about the society or life in Manchester at all. Hope you all have a great year and I look forward to getting to know everyone!
Rohan Dronsfield - Treasurer
Hi I’m Rohan and I’m the Society’s Treasurer this year! Being Treasurer for the Society primarily includes the raising of funds in order to create an inclusive and engaging society, enabling it to flourish more students get more involved. I will do this through attracting sponsors and executing funding pitches at student union and faculty events.
The society is extremely important for the social and professional development of our students – forging the connections between student and firm will certainly shape their desired career paths. PPE students are arguably the most rounded students and so will be extremely useful in the workforce post-university, and so it is good for firms to connect with them during university. Sponsors who are actively involved in a positive relationship with our Society will be enabled to connect with intelligent and driven students who have various career desires. Through this relationship we will be enabled to fund charity donations, sports teams and socials. As before, we have a motivated Committee behind the Society and we aim to work with sponsors to grow and develop the Society to our best abilities.
Josie Fowler - Social Secretary
Hi I’m Josie, I’m a second year, and I’d like to welcome you to the PPE society. PPE has a great reputation for being one of the friendliest and most active societies on campus, and as social sec it’s my job to maintain this. I’m in charge of organising all the various socials we have through the year, which includes a welcome meal, themed bar crawls, a Christmas party, end of year ball and much, much more. The socials are a great way to mingle with students across the years and talk to people outside of seminars and lectures, meaning it’s a great way to make friends as we always have high turnouts. I hope you’re excited to start your course and I’ll be looking forward to meeting you all at the welcome meal, and seeing you at all the socials from then on!
Clodagh Douglas - Communications and Social Media Officer

I encourage everyone to contribute to the content of the website and to help raise the profile of the society. So please get in touch. Whether its photos from socials or write-ups of anything PPE related, I'm open to all suggestions. The PPE society is a close-knit society so don't be afraid! But most imporantly, I hope you are all excited to join and I look forward to meeting everyone this coming year!
Zain Abrar- Engagement Officer
Hi, I’m Zain, your engagement officer for this year. My role is to ensure that we hold exciting academic events that benefit all of us. These will include debates, lectures and workshops. I’m eager to work together with everyone and share ideas in order to make sure that we hold events that are relevant to all of us. I’m also keen on connecting the current students with PPE Alumni and will be providing more information regarding this throughout the year. I strongly encourage all of you to get involved with the society as much as you can and I can guarantee that we will have a great time!
Rohan Mistry - Fundraising Officer
Hi I'm Rohan Mistry and I'm this years fundraising officer. That means I'll be in charge of raising money for charitable causes throughout the year through the society, be it in the form of big events and parties or collection's during sporting events. I've worked with several charities over the years from LGBT related ones such as JustLikeUs to youth gang violence with Redthread. I'm always up for a challenge and love to stay busy with sports, charity work, drama pretty much anything except for university work. If you have any ideas for fundraising events or charitable causes you'd like the society to consider then do get in touch!
Harriet Simmons, Megan Moore and Rohan Mistry - Peer Mentor Co-ordinators
Hi! We are your Student Co-ordinators for the mentoring scheme next year. We will be overseeing the scheme, making sure that all new students are put at ease and enjoy their first year of PPE at Manchester as much as we all have! All peer mentors are second and third year PPE students who are fully trained to support first years both socially and academically throughout the year. The mentoring system ensures that all year groups are fully integrated within the society, making Manchester PPE society a close-knit group of friends who study and socialise together. This is what we believe makes studying PPE at Manchester so special!
We look forward to meeting and supporting all of the new first years of class 2021 very soon!
Mykola Kuzmin - International Inclusivity Officer
Welcome to one of the most elitist societies at the University of Manchester! I’m 2nd Year PPE student, and I’m also a peer and debate mate mentor. I would be responsible for organisation of cultural events at and outside of university, which would allow students to get to know each other better. In particular, my focus would be the integration of all members of the PPE Society through international poetry nights, multicultural cooking competitions and cosmopolitan music battles, and many other events. In particular, I will also work alongside with Engagement Officer to make all PPE students to feel that Society belongs to them. I will promote and campaign for equal opportunities within university, union and wider community. As I final note, I look forward to meeting all new arrivals In Fresher’s week.
